Holtville’s Tubbs named ALABCA Coach of the Year

Holtville baseball coach Scott Tubbs is still collecting citations for last year's title run.
On Friday night, Tubbs who led Holtville to the AHSAA Class 5A state championship for the first time in forty years was named Head Coach of The Year by Alabama Baseball Coaches Association.
Following its 28-14 overall record in the 2023 season, Holtville swept Sardis in three games to claim state title honors: Game #1 at Bayview Park won by a score of 3-to. and game # set for this evening (Thursday) will decide which team secures the sweep tonight with another win over Sard
actually said Tubbs, “ This is a team award. It's an enormous honor for the whole group. That is the kind of honor you don ’ t get unless your supporting staff-coaches, players and parents- are really great. That's just the build-up of what our season is. This has nothing to do with me. That is all to do with our program, and it means we did everything the right way.
Coming into the 2023 season, Holtville lost in last year 's state championship. The Bulldogs were bruised up and battered around in regular season, traveling a rockier road than perhaps any team throughout the entire state.
You might say the Bulldogs were in real bad shape after going 18-13 and dropping their last two games of the regular season by a combined score of 20-2. Slapout hosts Mobile Christian in the first round: Game 1 goes to visiting Mobile, who jump on top with five runs in the top of the first and cruise home.
In game 2 of the doubleheader things turned for Holtville, who won 13-3. Game 3 provided the deciding encounter, with Holtville beating Elmore County 12-6 to set up a rivalry matchup in the second round.
"The last two weeks going into the playoffs weren't so good, and it was in Game 2 against Mobile Christian that we began to gain our confidence back," Tubbs said.
