On Friday, November 18, 2023, Valders High School dedicated its gym court as “The Coach Donn Witt Gym Court” in recognition of its former head football/basketball coach’s achievements.
A Coach's Impact
One of the coaches who started their sporting careers at this high school was Donn Witt. He was a head basketball coach, working there for about 38 years and earning 625 victories. Through his commitment to the sport and undying love of being a coach, he motivated generations of Valders High School athletes.
A Community Celebration
Truly, it was a celebration for the community in which former players, coaches, alumni, as well as other members from the community came together to honour his tenure.
It started with a touching eulogy paying tribute to Coach Witt’s life and his legacy at Valders.
Emotional Speeches
Some ex-players and fellow coaches came forward to tell the stories about the team’s coach and stress that it was because of him they could achieve the desired result.
In a way, he showed his gratitude to his community, especially former players who helped him win all five titles.
Unveiling the New Title
The climax of the occasion was the grand revelation of a new gym court name, and this drew ecstatic cheering and shouts from the audience. Having been newly adorned with “Donn Witt Gym Court,” the banner was a symbol of immortality for the coach.
A Lasting Tribute
Rename of a gym court pays permanent tribute to an outstanding contribution to Valders High School basketball by a coach Donn Witt. He will live on in the school’s memory as a source of motivation for youngsters now and in years to come, who want to be excellent players not only upon but also off the field.
Coach Witt was not only about winning and losing as many matches as possible. He ingrained into his players team work, persistence, and fair play—the kind that no doubt changed life of these kids for the better way after the game was over.
It’s only fair that the gym court is named after him for his long service as Valders coach and the many players whose lives he has made better. He will continue to inspire Valders athletes as they remember what it takes to be dedicated, work hard, and have a burning passion.
