No. 15 Trinity Hall, No. 14 Cherokee Reign Supreme at Score at the Shore
Manahawkin, NJ – On Friday night, at the Score at the Shore girls 'basketball tournament in Ortley Beach two ranked New Jersey powerhouses displayed their firepower and came away with victories. No. 15 Trinity Hall and No. 14 The Cherokee put their stamp on things and solidified positions among the state's best.
Trinity Hall Overpowers Southern with A Balanced Offensive
Taking the offensive Lilly Riggi brought Trinity Hall out on top. The Monarchs cruised to a 61-32 win over Southern Regional thanks in no small part to her game high of 15 points. This win stretches the Trinity Hall record to 3-2, a testament both to its powerful offense and stout defense.
Whitney Hobson and Nina Emnace helped win ten points each, while the entire Trinity Hall team contributed to a 40-11 halftime lead. Southern's Skylar Soltis had a valiant 21 points, yet Trinity Hall used its balanced attack too well for the other side to be able to handle.
Cherokee Stifles Shawnee with A Masterclass in Defense
Across the court, No. 14 Cherokee gave a clinic on defensive execution, holding Shawnee scoreless in the opening quarter and winning 35-14. By halftime, Cherokee had won command of the match with a 16-4 lead. Beyond that they never looked back en route to an eventual 35-24 victory.
Brielle Alaba led the way for Chiefs with a team-high nine points, and all of Cherokee's defensive corps is deserving praise as well. Shawnee's Noelle Thomas led them with seven points, but their offense couldn't find its rhythm against the hard-pressing Cherokees.
Holiday Hoops Highlight New Jersey's Talent
The decisive victories recorded by Trinity Hall and Cherokee point to the depth of talent in New Jersey girls 'basketball. Both teams showed championship potential, and now fans can't wait to see their seasons play out.
The tournament known as Score at the Shore offers New Jersey's best young stars a stage upon which to perform, and with Trinity Hall along with Cherokee taking home victories this past weekend (the holiday season melting pot on the hardwood has begun).
